Agency.Laxmi Chhaya was an actress and dancer who appeared in more than 55 Bollywood and Marathi films in the 1960s and 1970s, She portrayed modern and traditional women characters in many films. Her noted performances were in ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘Kundan’ and ‘Raaste Ka Patthar’. With fading roles of dancers and vamps in Hindi films, her career like many others came to an end, especially when the heroines started to play daring/ baring roles and started to wear skimpy dresses.
Chhaya’s film career extended from 1961 through at least 1982. After retiring from the cinema, Chhaya taught dancing to indigent children. She died of cancer in Mumbai in 9 May 2004 at the age of 56.
